Hay fever symptoms, also known as allergic rhinitis symptoms are very similar to that of cold. Because of these similarities, it can be easier to get confused about which is which, unless by a medical diagnosis. Symptoms such as the runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, sleep difficulty, fatigue, etc are both common to each. The most common difference between the two is that cold is being caused by a virus whereas hay fever is being caused by allergens.

Most individuals have held to the belief that hay fever symptoms may only be caused by exposure to pollens or dust mites. However, it should be remarked that the saliva of some of our house pets such as cats and dogs including fur and feathered animals are not being excluded.

If adults could find it difficult to predict the differences between hay fever and cold, what about our children?. For children, do not wait for severe signs and symptoms before visiting a doctor. Since the signs are similar to that of cold, it is always advisable to visit a doctor earlier for preventive reasons if you withness any signs or symptoms.

Other severe symptoms of hay fever include bleeding of the nostrils, loss of taste and smell, loss of voice, a situation known as laryngitis.

In terms of being contagious, we can add one more difference between common cold and hay fever.while common cold is said to be contagious, and can be transmitted from person to person, hay fever, on the other hand, is not contagious. Additionally, individuals with hay fever usually have a clear watery discharged from the nose which is not usually accompanied by any fever, Cold, on the other hand, is not being accompanied by any fever and there is the discharged of thick yellowish fluid.
